I hear the secrets that you keep...

...when you're talking in your sleep.

Saturday night we went to our friend Crysanthemum's birthday party, and of course I consumed a good amount of wine. After sleeping through the hour-long drive home, I pretty much crawled right into bed when we got back into the house.

I must've managed to get into an interesting state of sleep by the time J came up to bed, because as he was fiddling with his new iPod alarm clock I asked him, apparently very clearly, "What kind of expertise in abstract patterns do you need right now"?

Thank god he had the sense to write my question down. This is the first time any sleep-talking on my part has been documented, and I was as puzzled by the content of my ramblings as J was. The funniest part to me was that the next day he was telling me about this with the expectation that I might be able to explain what the hell I'd been talking about.

Ha! A caver friend of mine talks in his sleep all the time, to the point that most of us refuse to share a tent with him. His eyes are open, he looks right at you, and makes the most inane statements just clear as day. Strange!

I must admit I too am a sleep talker. My folks told me about several times I rambled some nonsense to them during a sleep induced delirium. I guess I'm also one of those scary sleep talkers that open their eyes and talk right to you even though I'm not there. I guess I have a pretty dazed look so it's apparent something is weird. My favorite quote? "Are you going to let the beavers out?" What the hell was I talking about? LMAO!

Jay's a sleep talker and it drives me bananas. One time he started doing heat transfer equations in his sleep. He was taking a really tough class and apparently needed to process the information. I rememembered enough to tell him some parts of it and he was really annoyed that the class was taking up so many brain cells.

Otherwise the stuff he says usually makes no sense.

That's hilarious. I am also a sleep talker and occasional walker, although this seems to have slowed down with age. When I was in high school I apparently sat up bolt upright in bed and screamed "RELATIONSHIPS!!" My family still tells that one. And another time I went upstairs and catatonically sat in the living room chair. My mom said - shouldn't you go back to bed? I looked at my wrist (although was wearing no watch) and said, oh yeah, I guess I should. I have no memory of any of this.

LMAO at all your stories! I would be really freaked out by a sleep talker who has their eyes open...Kitty, why didn't you warn me when we went camping?!?!

That is hilarious. I once spoke "you're the best" while asleep with Shel lying next to me, reading. She thanked me for saying that to her, the next morning. But, I couldn't tell you why I said it, nor to whom.

Heh... I was on holiday in Tenerife once when I had a vivid dream about a black-clad assassin stealthing into the castle whilst I was guarding the throne. As I caught him getting closer to the dais I shouted (REALLY loudly) "Save the King, Save the King!!" which no doubt brought people running to my room :) It was only an afternoon kip too!

Odd dream for a non-royalist eh?

Anyway, your request sounds like a job for Timothy Leary.
